ALFALFA INSURANCE Informational Meetings: Wisconsin
Alfalfa production and harvesting can often experience losses due to weather and insects. Alfalfa insurance is an underused risk management tool that offers protection from these losses. If you are not currently insuring this valuable crop, take the time to see what protection is available to you and cut your losses. Informational meetings will be offered at four locations through a special grant from the USDA North Central Risk Management Region.
Information to be covered:
- How to protect your alfalfa from loss due to excessive rain, drought, winter kill, insects and wildlife damage
- Provisions of an alfalfa policy
- What is needed to start a policy
- Cost of premiums for hay. NOTE: Over 70% of the premium for these crops is now subsidized
- New seeding policies, including winter kill coverage
- Deadline for existing alfalfa stands is September 30, 2003.
Farm Crop Insurance Agency and RCIS Insurance will present the information.
